CB DELTA BRAVO 106 (YORK-ENGLAND)

York is a city in North Yorkshire, England, at the confluence of the Rivers Ouse and Foss. The York urban area has a population of 137,505 whilst the entire unitary authority (see below) has a population of 184,900.

York is the traditional county town of Yorkshire, to which it lends its name. However, it did not form part of any of the three historic divisions of Yorkshire; known as ridings.

Traditionally the term City of York was reserved for the area within the city walls (a small area outside of the walls, the Ainsty, was often associated with the City, resulting in the term the City and Ainsty of York), but the modern City of York, created on April 1, 1996, is much larger. It is a unitary authority, and apart from York itself, includes several neighbouring parishes which formerly belonged to the surrounding districts of Harrogate, Ryedale and Selby. It borders on the non-metropolitan counties of North Yorkshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire though for ceremonial purposes is part of North Yorkshire.

The city is the seat of the Archbishop of York, metropolitan bishop of the Province of York.

York is home to the University of York, founded in 1963, and York St John University, which was founded in 1841 and gained university status in 2006.

CB LADY PURDEY (TERNEUZEN-HOLLAND)

The city of Terneuzen is located on the southern shore of the Westerschelde estuary. It can be reached from the rest of the Netherlands via the Westerschelde Tunnel, which opened in March of 2003.

First mentioned in 1325, Terneuzen was a strategically located port on the waterways to Ghent, in present-day Belgium. Nowadays the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal is still an important shipping route. [1] The port of Terneuzen is the third largest in the Netherlands, after those of Rotterdam and Amsterdam. The largest plant of Dow Chemical Company outside of the United States is located at Terneuzen, on the west side of the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal.

Tradition has it that Terneuzen was once the home of the legendary Flying Dutchman, Van der Decken, a captain who cursed God and was condemned to sail the seas forever, as described in the Frederick Marryat novel The Phantom Ship and the Richard Wagner opera.

It received city rights in 1584. Before 1877, the city was often called Neuzen.

CB ELECTRÃO (ALCANTARA-PORTUGAL)

Alcântara (pron. IPA: [aɫ'kɐ̃tɐɾɐ]) is a civil parish (freguesia) of the city of Lisbon, Portugal. Its name is of Arabic origin, meaning "the bridge", and refers to the Roman bridge that once existed there in the kingdom of Dom João V.

Although today it is quite central, it was once a mere suburb of Lisbon, comprising mostly farms and palaces. In the 16th century, there was a brook there which the nobles used to promenade in their boats. Through the late 19th century, Alcântara became a popular industrial area, with lots of small factories and warehouses. Through the centuries, this area has lost all of its charm and old buildings, as well as its brook, and the womenfolk used to go there to do their laundry.

Around the early 1990s, Alcântara started to become a place for pubs and discotheques, mainly because its outer area is mostly commercial, and the noise generated at night, and the "movida", would not disturb its residents. Today, some of this areas are slowly being taken over by loft developments and new apartments that can profit from its excellent river views and central locality.

CB CASA62 (LIESTAL-SWITZERLAND)

Liestal (in former times Liesthal) is the capital of the canton of Basel-Country in Switzerland, 17 km south of Basel.

It is an industrial town with a cobble-street Old Town.

The name Lihstal was first mentioned in 1189, and the settlement dates at least from Roman times. The development of the town is due to its strategic location on the road between the first bridge over the Rhine at Basel and the St. Gotthard Pass.
