Auxois (in Latin Alesiensis pagus) is an old country of France, belonging to the duchy of Bourgogne.Il was divided into bailliage principal of Semur-in-Auxois and bailliages particular of Avallon, Arnay-the-Duke and Saulieu.Il owes his name in old Alésia, which was included/understood there. It formed a county which was joined together with the duchy of Burgundy in 1082.Il form today the districts of Avallon (Yonne) and the south of the district of Montbard (Coast-in Or).
